Mid Engine Rear wheel drive (MR) -- The drive layout that consumes... a lot of interior space of the car especially the seating capacity, the engine is placed in the middle of the chassis and the driven axles are at the rear. Although it has more weight at the rear, entering a corner makes it more difficult because the front tires have less traction resulting to understeer and since the rear is heavy, the car tends to oversteer when exiting a corner. This kind of layout is commonly used in racing cars and sports cars because of weight distribution focused in the center of the car.

Power, speed and performance -- those are the three major traits of... a muscle car. When first produced, muscle cars were just pretty darn amazing because they combined the efficiency of a lightweight, mid-sized body with the performance of a high-power V8 engine and special design features that further increased the cars’ acceleration capabilities. Because muscle cars topped all other vehicles in terms of power, speed and performance, they were ideal for racing.

Muscle cars were produced from the mid-1960s into the early 1970s, but... the production of such beasts fell drastically due to a number of factors. First was the controversy over whether it was wise and responsible to make such powerful vehicles available to the general public, primarily due to road racing. Because muscle cars were often used irresponsibly, liability relating to them was pretty high which forced insurance companies to increase rates for insuring muscle cars. Emission control requirements intended to curb pollution also played into the picture making it near impossible for automakers to produce muscle cars that met the standards they had to adhere to.

Since muscle cars were produced for a limited number of years, they... are valuable items for collectors and are still highly desirable to those who enjoy racing or desire a quick, powerful, mid-sized car. Since the decline in the production of muscle cars, some automakers have attempted to bring the muscle car era back to life by producing powerful vehicles that resemble the legendary muscle cars, but in my opinion, they don’t hold a candle to classic muscle cars like the GTO, the Road Runner or the Chevelle SS.

The body styles that were available for the Jaguar XK 120were... also made available for the Jaguar XK 140Since the Jaguar XK 140is a sports car, the body styles made available for the consumers included the roadster that was a two seater style with side screens, a detachable windshield, and a hood. There also was the Drop Head Coupe, which was also known as the DHC. It had a fixed windshield, wind up windows, 2+ 2seating, and an attached hood. The last body style for the Jaguar XK 140was the Fixed Head Coupe. This was also called the FHC. It held a 2+ 2seating, along with some wind up windows. Like the Jaguar XK 120, the Jaguar XK 149body styles FHC and DHC still continues to hold dashboards and door cappings covered in walnut wood. The roadster, on the other hand, has a leather covered dash, padding on the top of its doors, and side screens for weather protection. The Jaguar XK 140was also made available with different color choices for its exterior. The list of colors included suede green, pastel green, British racing green, pacific blue, pastel blue, birch gray, battleship gray, lavender gray, dove gray, pearl gray, red, maroon, cream, and black.

The Mazda RX 7is a sports car that had started in... production in 1978It is also known as the Savanna and the Efini RX 7The first batch of this vehicle actually went to be part of the affordable sports car segment. It held various competitors that include the Datsun/Nissan 280Z. The Mazda RX 7holds a unique twin rotor Wankel rotary engine as well as a sporty front midship rear wheel drive layout. It was also well balanced and was very appropriate for racing because of the latter. This sports car actually replaced the Mazda RX 3However, the fact is that both the Mazda RX 7and the Mazda RX 3were sold in Japan as the Mazda Savanna.

Sometimes, being small is an advantage. That is possibly why the Mazda... RX 7was able to make its way to the top. It could work in racing. It could also be a good element during heavy traffic. However, even if this vehicle is small, it has been packed with excellent power.

The differences between the other roadsters and the Jaguar XK 150is... that the latter uses a one piece windscreen. The wing line also did not dropped that much over the doors. The bonnet was widened and opened down to the wings. The bulkhead was moved to make it around four inches longer. A wide range of color choices were made available for this vehicle and the list includes Red, Pearl Grey, White, Indigo Blue, Claret, Cotswold Blue, Black, Mist Grey, Sherwood Green, Carmen Red, British racing Green, Cornish Grey and Imperial Maroon.

This vehicle has been crafted as a convertible although there have been rumors that Pontiac would soon be manufacturing a fixed roof coupe version. Illegal Street Racing: A Growing Problem

It's not an uncommon sight. Two vehicles line-up at a streetlight, one... challenges the other, and once the green light appears they take off as fast as they know how. Illegal street racing is not a new thing. It's been going on ever since the days of the Model T Ford. Over the years, speeds have increased and with the advent of cell phones and GPS systems, so has the technology. But the consequences of these careless actions have never changed. Thousands of accidents occur each year due to thoughtless, aggressive driving on our streets. But the trend continues to grow. Movies like The Fast and The Furious have helped to spread the virtues of street racing. Movies like these don't show innocent victims getting hurt, but rather they portray the characters as misunderstood good guys who have a passion for cars. It's easy to see how young people are able to accept the notion that street racing doesn't hurt anyone when everything they see in movies confirms it. Videos of illegal street races are downloaded off the web at a growing rate only to fuel the desires of those who are unable to see the dangers in it.

Racing is not a bad thing. In fact, it's an exciting sport... that requires training, discipline and skill. But the streets are no place for racing. Unfortunately, any young person (the majority are young) can get into their car, mash the throttle and drive. No experience, no talent, no discipline. All of this while innocent drivers use the streets for their day-to-day activities.

So what are the solutions. Racing on our streets will never stop,... but it can be reduced. What needs to be understood is that street racing is a social activity. People gather in a parking lot, hang out with friends, challenge someone to a race, and come back to the same parking lot once the race is over. Some cities recognized this and have opened drag strips for people to race, socialize and interact. For a small fee, they can prove themselves in a safe, supervised environment. This is also a great way to integrate local police with the participants. In order to reduce racing on our streets, local authorities need to control it. Larger fines won't reduce street racing. Hundreds of people have died racing on the streets in this country and if the possibility of death doesn't stop someone, a fine won't either.

In the end we need to understand that the only way to... reduce street racing is to provide an outlit for which it can occur. Until then, the masses will do what they know; they'll continue to race on our streets.

99% of all starting problems are caused by fuel problems. These can... stem from bad or old fuel and improperly mixed fuel (please see mixing chart). Do not use fuels that contain alcohol, as the can cause you bike to run 'lean'. Be advised some racing fuels contain alcohol and are best avoided... We recommend that you use normal petrol for a garage and quality two stroke oil.

First we must examine the reason for speeding, although this is an... article about radar detectors there is some sense to keeping a speed limit, maybe you are young at this moment, but one day you will have a family, and you wouldn’t want your kids to play outside and get hit by a speeding car, maybe you love racing but do not yet understand that racing requires skill and more importantly -- a track. So there is a sense in keeping a limit to the speed in which people drive.

However, even new teen drivers could benefit from this training, as most will teach how to control pedal input and steering smoothly. Additionally, they teach on controlling the vehicle during changing lanes, emergency braking, and skid corrections. The tire you use is one of the most important suspension tuning... choices you will make in building and racing your car. Even a car with a professionally-tuned suspension will not be able to clock fast laps or handle well on a poor quality or inappropriate set of tires. The major performance factors to consider when choosing tires are compound, contact patch, and sidewall height.

A softer compound tire will have more grip but will wear out... quickly while a harder compound tire will have less grip but will last for a relatively long time. Your choice of compound is mainly affected by the type of racing you plan to do and your budget. For serious racing, you will need a soft compound tire to be competitive. If you plan to do mostly street driving and/or do not have the money to frequently replace tires, go with a harder compound.

The contact patch is determined by the width of the tire and... the tread pattern that is on the tire. (Usually the width provided in the tire specifications is the overall width, or section width, of the tire, not the width of the actual part of the tire that touches the ground. However, some manufacturers will provide the actual width of the contact patch, which should be slightly smaller than the overall width of the tire.) If the tire has very little tread, the contact patch will be larger (since there are fewer gaps on the tire surface for the tread), and the tire will have more grip. A tire with no tread, used only for racing, is called a slick. Slicks will maximize your car’s cornering ability but are illegal and dangerous on the street. As a rule of thumb, if you plan to drive on the street, use a tire with at least three vertical treads. These are often referred to as semi-slick tires.

The most useful weight adjustment for road racing is front bias, or... the weight distribution between the front and rear wheels. The purpose of adjusting front bias is to balance the weight of the car evenly between the front and rear wheels while the car is turning. If the front tires have more weight on them while turning, then they will have to exert more force on the racetrack than the rear tires to keep from sliding. The same goes for the rear tires. This can be seen from basic physics:

Generally, if you are driving on a road coarse with approximately the... same number of left and right turns, front bias should be the only weight adjustment that you work with. However, there are two other adjustments that can improve handling if you will be racing on an oval or a track with predominantly right or left turns: left weight bias and cross weight. Left bias is adding weight to the left side of the car so that it will be balanced in left turns. The same can be done for right turns.

Increased caster is advantageous for racing and, in some cases, street driving.... The only disadvantage is the added steering effort. While camber gain due to caster is generally good for increasing the grip of the front tires in a corner, too much camber gain will cause the tires to heat up, lose grip, and wear out prematurely. Therefore, do not use more than a few degrees of caster. If your car uses a MacPherson Strut suspension, it may be necessary to modify the strut tower mounts or tension rods to be able to adjust caster.

If you do not plan to race your car, then a body... kit is a purely visual upgrade. But for racing, I recommend installing a lightweight front bumper (preferably one that has been aerodynamically tested).

Body kits are usually made from fiberglass, ABS plastic, polyurethane, or carbon... fiber. Carbon fiber is the best material to use (at least for racing) because it is lightweight and strong. However, it is very expensive and cannot be repaired if it ever breaks. ABS plastic and fiberglass are also light and not even close to as expensive as carbon fiber, but since they are rigid materials, they tend to crack easily.

Production cars do not have a brake bias adjustment. Adding a brake... bias adjustment often requires modifications to your car’s brake system. A dual master cylinder setup is necessary to separately control the front and rear brakes. If you plan to use your car mostly for street driving, a mild aftermarket brake upgrade will suffice for improving your braking performance. However, if you will be racing, aftermarket brakes with a brake bias adjuster will be a valuable addition in making your car perform well on the track.

Aerodynamic components should only be used to tune high speed cornering characteristics.... They will have little or no effect on low-speed handling. Additionally, aerodynamics should be relied upon to increase the overall grip of your car. It should not be used to correct severe understeer or oversteer. Try to rely upon mechanical suspension tuning to control understeer/oversteer. Only turn to aerodynamics as a last resort. This is because aerodynamic grip cannot always be relied upon in a racing situation. For instance, if you are closely following another car, there will be less air flowing over your car because the car in front is breaking through the air for you. The reduced airflow (and therefore downforce) on your car will cause you to lose grip. If you rely heavily on aerodynamics to improve handling, your car will become difficult to drive when you are in close proximity with other cars.

In racing, you want to set up your gears so that you... can use the full potential of your engine in each gear. In other words, it is not useful to have a 5-speed transmission if you’re driving on a relatively low-speed track where you never shift up to fifth gear. In this case, you could install a shorter final gear, which will have the effect of shrinking the difference between gears and allowing you to use the fifth gear. The opposite problem is when you run out of gears (reach the RPM limit in fifth gear). To allow for more top speed, you can install a taller final gear, which will have the effect of increasing the difference between your transmission’s gears. The Chrysler Group's series of SRT or Street and Racing Technology vehicles... are an overwhelming hit for the automaker. Key models from Dodge, Chrysler, and Jeep represent the performance side of the house and are taking American streets by storm.

Team Viper and Team Prowler later merged operations to become SRT --... Street and Racing Technology -- a high performance automotive group that is part of the Chrysler Group at DaimlerChrysler. Although the Plymouth brand was eventually dropped, DaimlerChrysler decided to expand the SRT line up to include certain vehicles sporting Dodge, Jeep and Chrysler nameplates.

Street and Racing Technology {SRT} is the name of the performance group... within Chrysler that is tasked with taking already potent vehicles and turning them into class leading, road dominating muscle cars. In its earlier day the team transformed the Dodge Neon and most recently this same team did its work on the Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV. When the 2006Charger was given its opportunity to shine, the SRT team immediately decided to plant a 6.1L V8 Hemi-powered engine underneath the car’s hood producing an amazing 425horses along with 420lbs-feet of torque peaking at 4800rpm. Clearly, no car in its class matches the Charger’s competence with the exception of the 300C.
